Verde Joins Solar Plus to Build Regional Solar Energy Goals

Written By Carolina Iraheta

During this past year, Living Cully’s partner Verde has participated as a stakeholder in the Solar Plus process. Solar Plus is a Pacific NW regional effort to identify state-level solar goals and strategies for Oregon and Washington that support the growth of solar energy. Verde joins solar installers and manufacturers, utilities, energy advocates, environmental justice organizations, and government agencies in a three years project to support solar energy development in Oregon and Washington. As a Solar Plus participant, Verde has led efforts to think about solar strategies from an equity perspective. Verde works to ensure Solar Plus goals and strategies have direct environmental, social and economic benefits for low-income communities and communities of color, and create no further burdens for historically underserved communities. Verde also recommends that as Solar Plus moves forward with statewide solar strategies and projects, we expand our engagement strategies to create more inclusive decision making processes for low-income communities and communities of color.

As we enter year two of the Solar Plus process, we will be finalizing the Oregon state strategies. Verde is primarily looking at strategies that help diversify and grow the solar workforce and support neighborhood sited solar projects and community education opportunities. We will make sure to keep our blog updated with news from the project.
