The Portland State University Institute for Sustainable Solutions is the central portal for sustainability at PSU, fostering innovative cross-disciplinary research, critical skill-building curriculum, and effective community engagement to solve sustainability challenges in Portland and beyond. Through its Sustainable Neighborhoods Initiative, ISS is committed to helping Portland-area neighborhoods make measurable progress on community goals related to sustainability. PSU students have been engaged with Living Cully for several years working on topics including land-banking strategies, the health effects of displacement, and the planning and execution of the Cully Critter Cruise, a community-led nature and wildlife inventory
Proud Ground. Rising housing costs—be it renting or ownership—take a greater share of a family’s income than ever before. And given the nature of job-creation and wages in today’s economy, that’s not likely to change.
Proud Ground provides opportunity in this new reality. Proud Ground provides affordable homeownership opportunities for hardworking families with stable jobs and steady incomes–families who can qualify for a home loan, just not one at market rate. And because Proud Ground homes are forever-affordable, families have access to the stability and wealth-building that come with homeownership resale after resale–and our region has a growing supply of homes that are affordable for generations to come. Proud Ground works with Living Cully to create affordable homeownership opportunities in and around the Cully neighborhood.
