Priced Out Documentary Screening
May 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Interfaith Alliance on Poverty, Living Cully, and the St. Charles Housing Justice Committee will be hosting a showing of “Priced Out.”
Nikki Williams is a straight-talking single mom who does not suffer fools gladly. Her only wish was to live in a healthy black community in NE Portland.
In the documentary “North East Passage,” filmed in the late 1990s, Nikki worked to kick drug dealers off her block. Over a decade later, she realized she was one of the last black people on her street. (Northeast Passage will be shown at the May 3rd meeting of the Interfaith Alliance at St. Charles Borromeo, at 12:00 noon.)
While Nikki wanted to see the neighborhood fixed up, she never thought “they would kick everybody out, fix it up, and tell everyone they can’t come back.”
“Priced Out’ tells the story of how gentrification affected Nikki and the African American community of which she was a part. It is filmed in NE Portland and told by the people who lived the story.
