55 homes at the Arbor mobile home park get new smoke detectors

By Gabe Triplett, St. Charles Church

On April 22 St. Charles Church and Living Cully partnered with the Portland Fire Department and residents at the Arbor mobile home park to install smoke detectors in 55 homes at the Arbor. In January 2017, there was a fatal fire in a mobile home Cully, highlighting the need for more smoke detectors.  Together, mobile home residents, neighborhood volunteers and the fire department installed 180 smoke detectors in 55 homes! Almost 100 volunteer hours were put into this event.
On May 13th Living Cully and St. Charles will be joining with the Red Cross to install smoke alarms in the Cedar Shade Mobile Home Park in Cully. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Brenna at 612-360-5682 or bbailey@stcharlespdx.org.
The Electrician’s union, The IBEW, has donated $2,000 to St. Charles to pay for materials needed to do electrical upgrades for two parish families living in the Arbor mobile home park. In addition, they have offered to supply trained and certified electricians to assist with the mobile home repair program.
We are also looking for materials donations for the mobile home repair program. Currently we are in need of decent ½ inch or ¾ plywood, energy efficient windows and doors, roofing material and drywall. If you or someone you know or work for might be interested in making a donation please contact Gabe at 541-680-6509 or gabet@stcharlespdx.org
